Find a car and 'use its air-con frequently'
Feb 03 2011, 05:06 PM
A car's air conditioning should be switched on during the winter as well as the hotter months, to maintain the system's efficiency.
Those who find a used car should make sure that they are using its air conditioning occasionally during the winter months.
Although the conditions outside may be cold and blustery, Kwik Fit has found that keeping this system turned off across this time could cause trouble in the long run.
The vehicle specialist explained to motorists that leaving an air conditioning system off throughout the winter could reduce its efficiency when it is required during the warmer summer months.
Ian Fraser, chief executive of Kwik Fit, added: "Effective air-con can help clear windscreens quickly and is important to driver visibility and safety."
His comments come after research from the company found that 56 per cent of drivers keep this system switched off throughout winter.
Meanwhile, Rachel Wait, from Lovemoney.com, recently advised those who find a car that they should carry out some DIY tasks on it, as this could help bring the cost down once its MOT test comes around.
